Teflon Strips
Shell purflings are glued up with a teflon strip
spacer laminated into the position where shell stripping will go.
After drying, the teflon is carefully pulled out and the shell strips
glued into the groove where the teflon had been. Our teflon strips are
approximately 34”-36” in length, and can be cleaned and used several
times. Our teflon strips are available in the 3 sizes and priced
per strip. Oops! We have had these strips forever and somehow they
never found their way to our website. |

| Working with Abalam Strips Straight (4 1/2") &
Curved .063" Sound-hole requires 3 strips, edge inlay usually
requires 14 - 15 strips. Used by many U. S. factories including
Martin Taylor and others. Abalone bindings are laid up with a
Teflon spacer .063" when the bindings are dried the spacer is
removed and replaced by the shell. Straight strips are pressed
in by hand and broken around curves. The breaks are virtually
un-detectable with the exception of MOP. Curved strips can be
used if a tight radius is required. The time-savings are
enormous when using these long strips. |
